Global Citizen is teaming up with Interstate General Media to host a month long donation drive for school supplies which kicks off Wednesday in Philadelphia that aims to help students and teachers who have been affected by the major budget cuts implemented by the school district.
Now through October 25th, the two organizations will be gathering school supplies from public donations to help those affected by cuts. The effort comes after news broke out that state and local officials failed to close a $304 million deficit, which resulted in major budget cuts, school closings, thousands of employee lay offs, and chaos for the new school year.
Drive organizers are requesting that all donations include some of the following items; No.2 pencils, ballpoint pens, copy paper, construction paper, colored paper, calculators, protractors, dry erasers, masking and scotch tape, crayons, magic markers, highlighters, rulers children’s scissors, bottle of glue and glue sticks, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the entrance of the Interstate General Media’s headquarters location at 801 Market Street.
