The Gettysburg National Military Park has granted the Ku Klux Klan a special permit to hold an event on their grounds.
Park officials say that a Maryland-based KKK group has gotten approval for a special-permit event where the group plans to exercise its First Amendment rights at the historical site. Officials say that it is the parks responsibility to make the land available for citizens to use their rights, even if they’re expressed in a way that most citizens consider wrong.
The event is expected to take place on Saturday October 5th, on the lawn area of the North Gen. George Meade’s Headquarters. The historical site once served as a stage where thousands died in a Civil War battle.
