Von Miller, star linebacker for the Denver Broncos, is the newest athlete with a problem, failing a drug test that has left him with a suspension. Miller, who was one of the first picks in the draft just two seasons ago, has been one of the Broncos key players on their defense, making the Pro Bowl in both of his first two years in the NFL.
Miller will be suspended six games, adding to the excessive amount of off-season drama that the Broncos have had to deal with this summer. Elvis Dummerville, who was forced to leave the team because of a front office mistake, along with front office staff getting DUIs has made President John Elway’s job a whole lot harder. Elway admitted that he was extremely “disappointed” in Miller and is disappointed in all of the drama that has surrounded the team recently.
This year will also be a major make or break moment for the Broncos, as they feel that they have a good enough team to go to the Superbowl and win. The team has a great defense and offense, as they proved last year they are one of the elite teams in the NFL. The loss of both Dummerville and now Miller is going to be devastating for the Denver defense, but the addition of Wes Welker on defense could also be a huge positive towards the Broncos’ Superbowl dreams.
The Broncos will open their season against the defending champs in the Baltimore Ravens and they will have a very difficult schedule. The team needs to play well as a unit if they want to have any shot at getting deep into the playoffs this year.
