Us Americans do not realize sometimes that it isn’t us, but foreign countries that control certain technology fields. One great example of this ignorance is with mobile technology, and more specifically smartphones. Most people would assume that Verizon and AT&T are the mobile giants in the world and are there fore the most influential. But in reality, it is China Mobile that is the biggest and has the most value in the world.

So, with the biggest mobile company in the world must come the most popular and biggest money making phone in the world as well right? Wrong. The iPhone, undoubtedly the world’s most famous mobile device is not offered by China mobile, due to the amount of money that they would have to pay for marketing rights and ads. But, now that there are rumors of the company introducing not one, but two new iPhones, China Mobile is reconsidering signing a deal with Apple. The iPhone 5C, which would be a less expensive, mid-range iPhone, could be coming out this fall, which would make China Mobile too much money to turn down selling the phones to their customers. A deal now is speculated to come as soon as this month and most likely by the end of the year.

The iPhones also will be coming with new processors that will be able to accommodate China’s networks, which are not up to the same level as those in the United States. China is rumored to get 4G licensing in the next year, but the new iPhones will be able to accommodate both new and old networks.

Apple needs this deal to go through just as much as China Mobile. Apple has lost a lot of ground in China, which is maybe the fastest growing market in the world. Apple lost 43% of sales in China this year, which is devastating to the company’s growth. The deal will help both sides significantly, making it all the more likely to go through sooner than later.
