Botox Used to Help Multiple Sclerosis Tremors

If you or a loved one suffer from arm tremors that are caused by multiple sclerosis, it may be time to start considering botox injections to provide your self some relief.

Many people flock to get botox to hide aging skin and relax the muscles under the skin, but botox can be used to other medical procedures such as to treat chronic migraines, excessive sweating and some signs of multiple sclerosis.

Researchers tested the effect of botox on multiple sclerosis arm tremors. More than two-thirds of people who are diagnosed with MS have these symptoms. When the injection was made to 23 patients suffering from MS, researchers found that the treatment eased the tremors and even improved writing ability.

After botox treatment, most patients tremors would have gone from 5 to a 3 six weeks after the treatment. That would move the tremors from a “moderate” to a “mild” condition.

The cost of botox can range from $455-$575 per injection so it can be fairly expensive.

As of right now there is no way to treat the tremors caused by MS. Several ideas such as physical therapy and exercise have been tested, but did not show effective results. Surgery has also been preformed in some cases, however, the benefits did not last long.
Today researchers are exploring their options and running more tests on treatment. They hope to find a treatment that will benefit people for a while.
