There are 640,000 professional social workers in the United States who have dedicated their careers to either helping people transform their lives or improving environments that make such progress possible. This social contribution is celebrated each March during Social Work Month. A key message for this year’s celebration is that social workers are the safety net in a civil society. This slogan promotes the role of social workers as positive change agents who have the power to solve some of our nation’s most pressing challenges.
One of the ways social workers help is by finding resources for people. For someone with family difficulties, social workers might find a parenting class or support group. For a homeless person, they might find a place to live and a career training program. For a student, they might find a mentor or a learning disability expert. Social workers help those who can’t help themselves and save the day for large quantities of people. Let’s celebrate those who help us, Happy Social Workers Month!
