Starbucks Strawberry Frappuccino Colored by Bugs?

Ever wonder how the Starbucks Strawberry Frappuccino gets its color? Well its not the strawberries or food coloring, its actual insects that give it its pink coloring. Starbucks recently released a statement saying that the use of this material was intended to reduce the use of artificial ingredients. Starbucks used the cochineal extract which is made of grinding the dried bodies of cochineal bugs and then using the dye as a natural dye for food. The FDA has considered the material as safe and has approved it to be used in many foods such as, jams, preserves, meat, marinades. bakery products, alcoholic drinks, cookies, and cheddar products. However,  it has been found to cause some asthma and allergic reactions.
